Craft Con

Craft Con is a business development conference serving the evolving DIY/craft community. The first Craft Congress convened in March, 2007, in Pittsburgh, PA., where fifty event-based promoters of independent handcrafts met for discussion and intellectual exploration. Building on the foundation laid by that Congress, 2008 will see another convocation in San Francisco, CA. Over one hundred inviduals from all parts of the handcrafts world will come together to discuss their projects — making, promoting, publishing — and the future of the handcrafts movement.

The majority of Craft Con’s attendees are internet-savvy, college-educated 22-38 year old community leaders, but a new goal of the conference is to increase attendance across demographic lines. The original Congress saw attendees primarily from North America and the United Kingdom. Craft Con’s move to the West Coast attracts handcrafters from Latin America and Asia to attend alongside their North American and European counterparts. No matter their origin, the attendees all share a position of influence, not only in their respective communities, but also in the resurgence of handcrafters across the world.

Craft Con will be held the weekend of April 4th-6th 2008 at Brava Theatre in San Francisco’s historic Mission District. Meals and presentations will take place throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday, with break-away group sessions for more involved discussions. Saturday evening’s gala event will provide attendees with opportunities to experience and interact with San Francisco’s underground arts scene.

Craft Con is seeking corporate sponsorships. Traveling to and staying in San Francisco presents a financial challenge to many potential attendess. We hope to offer scholarships to leaders who may be traveling great distances to attend, as well as to those individuals who are contributing to the conference’s content. We are seeking cash sponsorships at all levels (from $150 to $5,000), as well as seeking in-kind sponsorships of products and services.
